Five universities from the Republic of Moldova (USM, UTM, ASEM, USMF and AMTAP) and 34 from Romania jointly promoted their educational offerings and opportunities for international cooperation at the European Association for International Education Exhibition – EAIE 2026, Europe’s leading forum dedicated to the internationalisation of higher education. For the second consecutive year, the two countries were represented through a joint Romania–Republic of Moldova stand, strengthening academic cooperation and the visibility of higher education institutions in the region.
The event took place on 8–11 September 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, bringing together more than 7,300 participants from over 100 countries. EAIE 2026 provided an extensive platform for promoting higher education institutions and developing international relations. The exhibition featured more than 250 stands, representing over 1,200 organisations, while the conference programme included more than 240 sessions and activities, delivered by over 350 speakers.
At the invitation of the European Commission, the National Erasmus+ Office and participants from the Republic of Moldova, together with colleagues from other EU candidate countries, attended a panel discussion entitled “Cooperation with the Western Balkans, Moldova and Ukraine: From Capacity Building to Future Association”. The discussion explored the experience gained through Erasmus+ projects already implemented in educational institutions across the region, as well as the programme’s future prospects in the context of EU accession. From the Republic of Moldova, the national perspective was presented by Daniela Pojar, Vice-Rector for International Relations at the Technical University of Moldova.
The participation of Moldovan universities in the joint stand was made possible through cooperation between the Councils of Rectors of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, with the support of the European Commission.
An important impetus for the participation of Moldovan institutions in EAIE 2026 was the Erasmus+ seminar “From Local to Global: Promoting the Internationalisation of Higher Education in the Republic of Moldova”, held in Chișinău in April 2026, The event was organised by the National Erasmus+ Office in Moldova and brought together more than 65 representatives of the academic community and addressed, among other topics, the importance of universities’ participation in international forums such as EAIE.
The annual EAIE Conference, the largest event of its kind in Europe, serves as a meeting point for universities, organisations and professionals in higher education, facilitating dialogue and the development of new international partnerships.
For universities from the Republic of Moldova, participation in EAIE 2026 provided an opportunity to showcase their educational offerings, expand their cooperation networks and strengthen their presence in the European Higher Education Area.
